Velma was born and grew up in Belfast and was never away from home for long. She was devoted to her mother and cared for her unconditionally for the rest of her life.
Her love for travel took her around the world and she especially enjoyed the high life on the seven seas going on cruises to Panama, Mexico, Hawaii, Russia, Stockholm, Norway, Greek Islands, Venice, Alaska and South America to name a few. Nothing fazed her especially a trip to a favela in Rio when she was told specifically by her daughter not to visit one! She also traveled extensively across Europe, the US, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
In October 2019 she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She fought it courageously during a global pandemic and was given the all clear in September 2020. Unfortunately the cancer returned in a more aggressive form in December 2020 and Velma lost her fight on 23rd December 2020.
The loss of such a lovely, vibrant, kind, caring person has left many many friends and relatives bereft and full of grief. She will always be remembered for being "fun Grannie", a caring mother and a loving wife.
She will be sorely missed.
