Tony Sturton

My dad Tony Sturton sadly passed away on the 14th September 2020 after being diagnosed with Mesothelioma which is a cancer in the lining of the lung owing to exposure to asbestos earlier in life. Married to his late wife Joan in 1960 he was both a father to Debbie and Dean, and PopPop to three grandchildren - Holly, Lucy and Ellie. He enjoyed football (closet Arsenal fan) and played cricket and football to a decent standard when he was younger. He was always a keen gardener and in later life kept an allotment in Plough Lane in Wimbledon where he had many friends and won awards from Merton Council for how well he kept his plots. Two decades a widower, he found companionship in the last years of his life with Ann, who he met whilst on holiday in Turkey. He was admitted to hospital on the 17th August 2020 but his cancer was very aggressive and his sad decline very rapid. We're immensely grateful to the staff at St.Georges in Tooting for the care they gave him. In lieu of flowers at dad's funeral we'd much prefer any donations be made to support Macmillan and the excellent work they do.

How to describe my dad? Miserable old git. Cantankerous. Forthright. Yet always there when we needed him. He's sadly missed by all of us.
