Suzanne Howe

Suz’s motto was Be Kind Always, and this was long before it became on trend. It was rooted at Suz’s core and asked a fundamental question as to why anyone would want or need to be nasty to another human being. This led her to drive her passion through a range of volunteering and community activities, whether a parish councillor, school governor, PTA secretary, Ramsey War Memorial Hall trustee, MacMillan Coffee Morning host, the list is endless. Suz has personally raised thousands of pounds for good causes, volunteered thousands of hours of her time, enabled events that have brought hundreds of families across the community to come together and has genuinely made a huge difference to many people’s lives. If you were to take a walk in Ramsey up to the playing fields you will see what is regarded as the areas finest play park with several areas of wooden play equipment there for families to enjoy. Suz had the vision to set off on securing that end result. Suz did the funding applications, Suz delivered the presentations, Suz undertook the project management to see this wonderful end result being delivered for the benefit of so many. In August 2020 Suz had delivered the devastating news that she had terminal cancer. Nothing can prepare you for this sort of news. Suddenly the things that used to stress you, the time you wasted on phones, the material possessions that you may have craved just become things that no longer happen. Time with loved ones, talking, sharing, laughing and telling one another just how much they are loved, admired and needed become the ONLY things that matter. The way that Suz took on this situation was beyond heroic. She managed to position our mindset that having more time would be the best situation we could realistically hope for. She decided early on that she wanted to be open and honest with everyone about the journey ahead that was being faced, which she did via her blog on social media. ‘If I can help one person that may be about to start out down this path then it will be worth it’ she would say. Raising funds for MacMillan in her memory would mean a huge amount such was the support received with a special value being derived from the incredible counselling team that supported Suz and her family since diagnosis. Anything that you may be able to donate would be so highly appreciated in memory of the beautiful Suzanne.
