Leila Thomson

It is with great sadness we share that Leila, founder and artist of Hoxa Tapestry Gallery, passed away on Monday 8th August 2022. Leila had been battling terminal cancer for the last 3 years so her passing wasn't completely unexpected but as a family we are all still understandably devastated. Leila had nothing but praise for everybody working at Macmillan and the new Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall. She felt fully supported and well cared for throughout her cancer treatment. As a family we are all so grateful for the support provided by Macmillian as it extended Leila's life by 3 years whilst giving her as good a quality of life as possible. She was able to stay at home in Orkney where she was happiest, surrounded by family. Leila remained strong, funny and unstoppably creative to the very end. We would love to thank Macmillan by encouraging donations to help them continue their incredible work and offer support to other cancer patients and their families.
