John Merrin

Our dad, John was such a wonderful person. His time with us was cut short, but he leaves behind the most wonderful memories of the kind, generous person he was that we will treasure forever. He lived a fabulous life full of family and friends who we are sure all have a story to tell or a fond recollection to cherish of times gone by. Ever the party animal in his younger days and often the last man standing leaving us with fabulous memories of endless parties, houses full of people and laughter – always lots of laughter! He loved spending time with his family, and especially his two grandchildren whom he adored. An avid football fan; Arsenal, Potters Bar Town and more recently taking great pleasure in watching his grandson Harry play, following him all over and rarely missing a game - his no 1 fan! Dad was the kindest, most generous man always there to help any one out and we have been honoured to hear so many stories from those whose lives he has touched over the years. Sadly, during his lifetime, Dad had two earlier battles with cancer, which he bravely fought and won with us by his side, however this last time proved simply too aggressive for even a strong man like our Dad to handle and after a short and cruel illness, he sadly passed away on the 9th November 2020 with us; his girls holding his hand. On the cusp of accessing the services of the wonderful Macmillan support network, sadly he never made it home, but we as a family remain passionate for the work they do and the invaluable support they give to families during the most difficult of times. As would be Dad’s wishes, instead of flowers at his funeral we would like to raise money to help Macmillan continue with their good work in supporting other families dealing with cancer and the sadness it brings and would ask therefore that you make donations via this tribute page. Our hearts are broken and unfortunately, current covid restrictions mean we aren't even able to celebrate his life by having the funeral he so deserved. We would therefore be honoured if you would also use this page as a place to share your memories and stories about about our Dad as well as to convey any condolences you would like to leave. With love, Nicky & Lisa xxx
