Fred Catherall

My Dad was born in Bulwell on the 25th of June 1946.He adored his Dad and Mum, Tom and Kate. He had 4 brothers and 1 sister. He went to school in Bulwell and the went on to serve an apprenticeship, where he gained a grade 1A engineering qualification. He then went to work on the coal face at various pits. He met my mum Pat in 1957 and they married in 1959. He loved my mum with all his heart and was a fantastic husband. My dad had a fantastic sense of humour. I was born in 1976 and we would spend hours together working on car’s, doing wood work and DIY. He was a very hard working man and had some fantastic friends at work. He enjoyed family holidays in the UK and abroad. He had a grandson Charlie who he thought the world of and would spend a lot of time together walking, chatting and doing jobs in the garage. He retired and my mum and dad moved to Rainworth, Mansfield. Where they have good friends and neighbours. He enjoyed walking his dog Kate around the local wood’s. In June 2021 my dad was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and received 6 rounds of chemotherapy which he took in his stride. In early 2022 he was told that his cancer had returned and there was no more treatment. He received help and care from the Macmillan team. My mum and family received other support from Macmillan team as well. Sadly my Dad passed away in hospital aged 85 on the 16th of April 2022.
