After a little convincing, in his later years Richard tried paddleboarding, body boarding and had a trip to the water park in Portugal. As a quiet, tv watching man these activities were often out of his comfort zone but he was always up for joining in with the grandchildren. You would often find him snoring in front of the tv or tinkering with his pond in the garden. He loved a trip out with his neighbours who were good friends, going for meals, shopping or a drive to the coast.
