Although my Dad had 5 boys and when we were young my Mum never worked, he ensured that we had a holiday every year. Best holidays were when we stayed in a caravan or he hired one to tow. I remember we went to Scotland in the highlands towing a caravan, and the weather wasnt that great. So he said right, lets follow the Sun. We drove from the highlands of scotland down to the lake district and then to Blackpool. From Blackpool down to South Wales and then on to Somerset where the weather had turned sunny and warm. He didnt like to pay the caravan pitching fees and if he could we would leave early in the morning to avoid paying the £5 overnight fee. The places we would stay in were normally fairly remote, sometimes with only 1 building housing the toilest and maybe a pipe coming out of the ground to get water. Us 5 boys loved those places as there was fishing , walking climbing exploring, no shops, no arcades, no amusements. We didn't need money as there was nowhere to spend it. They were the best holidays ever. Good for us boys, but not necessarily for my mum. High heels in a sheep's field don't work.
