Carole Hawkins

We have set up this tribute fund to help Macmillan, an organisation who helped greatly in Carole's last months. As many of you will recall, Carole was a realist and we think she'd have preferred the idea of helping others, over floral tributes. Carole was calm, measured and dependable, throwing the occasional curve ball to keep us on our toes. She was someone who preferred to observe, rather than be the centre of attention, although she had an excellent sense of humour and many of you will have witnessed her whilst in fits of laughter over sometimes trivial things. She shared the same 'glint in the eye' that her father Ted had, when amused. Whilst she may have been quiet, she was also fiercely strong minded. Woe betide those who crossed her - as some local service providers found out at their cost. It's certainly true to state that she didn't suffer fools gladly! She packed in an awful lot and to my knowledge, regrets were few. Cancer may have stolen time from her, but she lost only memories yet to be made. She was incredibly proud of her family - with Christmas coming up, the curtain pelmet will again be decorated with little angel decorations, one for each of her grandchildren. If you look very carefully, you might also see two silver foil milk bottle tops on a piece of cotton. These were a reminder of where she came from; hard work produced results and material items were appreciated but neither venerated or taken for granted. Cautious in nature, she provided good advice and her counsel will be missed by friends and family alike. From the many cards the family have received we also know that Carole was a valued and dependable friend and one who many will miss greatly. The next time you are holding a glass of fizz (or a cup of tea), do raise a quiet toast. If you'd like, perhaps consider a donation to Macmillan too, so they can carry on their brilliant work.
