Andy Steels

Our Superhero, a man who could make anything, fix anything, and do anything for others, died at a tender age of 54 and a day... taken far too soon. During the Covid lockdown from March 2020 carried on working at our company of AJS Tyres in Hull, a small independent business. keyworkers thru the road and rail sector. Keeping all other keyworkers safe and on the road. Always a fighter, never letting any illness stop his service. Andy was a diamond, he could and would speak with anyone, creating a warm and friendly business, the atmosphere was amazing, put the world to rights over coffee, biscuits oh and the odd repair of your car, tyres, mechanical any knocking and banging, as I said, he could fix anything. We found out about the cancer at the end of June 2020, too late for us, but continued with our annual charity events. We held a BigMacCoffeeDay early 14th August 2020 (Big Coffee Morning) The MacGolfathon (72 holes, Longest day of Golf )16th August. Unfortunately, Andy’s funeral was 18th August 2020. He never made either fundraiser but was there at the planning. and there through us all. The funeral proved what an outstanding human being he was, the turnout even with the "Covid 30" could make the hardest man cry!! the motorbikes that escorted us, (yes I followed on our Bike, driven by our son-in-law, what an honour!! A great memory for all the family!! A man whose shoes no-one else will ever fill, but he taught so many, to do so much. life lessons, but most of all, respect is not guaranteed but earned, dont hesitate, follow your dreams, family is EVERYTHING, and the littlest things turn into the biggest things and you don't even know it. You work to live, not live to work. we found out the hard way!! My god, life is too short, and life is precious. Believe me people if we only took our own advice.... Please learn from our words and ENJOY TODAY AS TOMORROW IS NEVER GUARANTEED. We have done so much fund raising to help others who are also dealing with cancer, the Macmillan teams need every support to help us all. Please give generously, keep this work going... we need them.
